Alexandre Ferreli Souza holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2000), earned a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering at COPPE/UFRJ in 2003, an MBA in Maintenance Engineering in 2004 (UFRJ), a specialization in Occupational Safety in 2013 (UFRJ), and a specialization in Clinical Engineering in 2016 (HIAE). Currently a regulatory affairs consultant at SQR Consulting, advising medical device manufacturers on compliance with laws and standards. Marcelo also coordinates or participates in various standardization committees in the health products area at ABNT and represents Brazil as a nominated Brazilian expert on several ISO and IEC standardization committees.
Marcelo de Almeida Duarte completed a PhD in Biomedical Engineering in the Biomedical Engineering Program, COPPE/UFRJ, in 2015 and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the same area and program in 2018. He is an Assistant Professor in the Undergraduate Electrical Engineering program at UniCarioca and a Professor at the Foundation for Support to the Technical School. He taught for 13 years in the Electrical Engineering program at Universidade Gama Filho and for 3 years in the Higher Technology program in Industrial Automation at Faculdade SENAI Rio. He is the author of the books “Eletrônica Analógica Básica,” published in 2017 by LTC (Grupo Gen), and “Corruptos desde Criancinha,” published in 2007 by Armazém Digital. In addition to these books, he published 2 book chapters, 19 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and 28 papers in conference proceedings. He participated in 18 technology events in Brazil. He supervised 24 undergraduate theses and 5 undergraduate research projects in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering. Marcos Rodrigues Batista holds a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Electronics and Telecommunications from Universidade Gama Filho (RJ, 1997). He holds a postgraduate degree in Clinical Engineering from the Federal University of Bahia (BA, 2012). He began his career in 1994 as an intern at a company that maintains radiology equipment. After graduation, he served as the technical manager at a company representing dental equipment in Rio de Janeiro. In 2001, he joined one of the pioneering Clinical Engineering Service companies in Rio de Janeiro, working in medium- and large-sized hospitals. He was a supervising engineer in technical assistance at a multinational company in the gases sector. In 2004, he implemented a Clinical Engineering Service at a hospital in Brasília, DF, where he had the opportunity to participate in the Hospital Accreditation (ONA) process. He has carried out other projects for ONA certification at all three levels in hospitals in the states of Bahia, Goiás, and Rio de Janeiro. He has participated in congresses, seminars, workshops, and other events related to Clinical Engineering. He is currently a partner and Technical Director at Staff Engenharia Clínica, based in Rio de Janeiro. Since 2012, he has served as a visiting professor at Universidade Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, teaching Clinical Engineering in postgraduate Nursing courses focused on equipment for the Operating Room and CSSD. I had the privilege of working for 6 years at Santa Casa de Misericórdia da Bahia – Hospital Santa Izabel, where I was able to grow professionally, starting as a junior electronics technician and advancing to Clinical Engineering Management. I also took part in the Salvador Municipal Hospital project, conducting all project analysis, validating it according to current standards, drafting specifications for medical equipment, overseeing the procurement processes for the equipment, and managing the receipt, installation, and validation of the entire hospital. I lived in Salamanca, Spain, in 2008 during a university exchange program. I also lived in Montreal, Canada, and I currently live in Porto, Portugal, where I completed an MBA in Healthcare Management at Católica Porto Business School.
